After his Blue Peter days he began to appear in musical theatre roles such as Barnum, Bill Snibson in Me and my Girl and as Charlie Chaplin in The Little Tramp. In 1995 he was nominated for an Olivier award as Best Actor in a musical for his role in The Card. Over the last few years he has toured in Alan Ayckbourn‘s Things we do for Love, played the twins in Corpse and appeared as Stan Laurel in a production of Laurel and Hardy. He recently took the roles of Macduff in Macbeth and Fantastic Mr Fox at the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park and took his one man show to the Edinburgh festival.
He is a well-known face on TV where his work as an actor and presenter has included The Childhood Friend, Sons and Lovers, Renoir My Father, Warship, Fathers and Families, Sam, Fallen Hero, Survivors, King Cinder, Oranges and Lemons, The Flockton Flyer, Space 1999 and The Big Race. His feature film credits include Stardust, Quilp, and a famous cameo in Flash Gordon. His appearances on the small screen lately have been varied from The Politics show to Faking it as an Abba lookalike. He holds the dubious honour of being voted off first twice in The Weakest Link. He often writes articles and appears in the media defending and empowering the rights of young people on subjects such as teenage pregnancy, creativity and outdoor lifestyle. He has just become Children’s Art Champion for Action for Children’s Arts and Youth Music Theatre and was given a Gold Blue Peter badge for his volunteer work with the Scouts.
Peter has had a long association with pantomime, following in his parent’s footsteps, and has played many roles including Buttons, Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Through his own production company he has staged: The Gingerbread Man, Erik The Viking, Robin Hood, Cinderella and Aladdin. This Christmas he is writing and directing Cinderella for the Oxford Playhouse.
